The Role:

To support the Snr Sourcing Manager, Technical Managers and Buying teams in their costing and informed decision making on the specification,  fitness for purpose and costs of key fabric programmes.

To work closely with the Sourcing Manager to  support the development of new sourcing routes , forecast trends in market conditions and to interrogate existing routes for customer acceptance and profit optimisation.

Establish the fabric qualities being costed and cross costed, are LFL ,meet customer expectations, and are fit for purpose.

To Maintain a library of specifications for Key Fabric Qualities

To promote ,through training and coaching , best purchasing practices for fabric.

To support Sourcing, Sustainability and Buying Teams in establishing sustainable fabric supply routes  to meet our pledges .

To manage the relationship with nominated laboratories and the Datalink platform

Interim  management of the ‘legacy’ Fabric Management process as this is wound down.

To support the Quality team  with the maintenance of the Fabric Testing section of the supplier manual. And to ensure the International performance requirements are being satisfied.

To benchmark and interrogate delivered fabric qualities for continuous improvement.

To assist as a subject matter expert in fabric related dispute resolution.

About You:

Functional Knowledge –

An Established  Fabric Technologist with a related Textile Technology Degree
Experience of Woven and Knit  fashion  fabrics.
A comprehensive understanding of fabric  weaving knitting and  finishing
An ability to clearly specify fabric requirements
A  demonstrable understanding of fabric testing  and an ability to clearly communicate
Understanding of raw material supply and associated  sustainability risks

Business Expertise –

Experience of working  in  a retail / buying  environment
Sometime having worked in the supply to retail would be an advantage
Used to working as a subject matter expert in a multi-disciplined team.
An established information network and an ability to report on market conditions for raw materials
Understanding of international trade requirements

Leadership –

This role will have no direct report but a significant influence  and impact on the roles of many people in our business.
Being able to lead and grow the knowledge of those colleagues will be a significant benefit to the business. Therefore we are looking for great communication skills and coaching ability.

This role will also nurture the right behaviours in our suppliers, and therefore being willing to spend time with key suppliers  building  on work started to establish  correct  supply behaviours and processes

Problem Solving –
The role will require a high degree of analysis and problem solving
Both numerate and investigative.
Therefore a strong sense of application of in depth technical and commercial no how will need to be applied to ensure problems and disputes are resolved as quickly as possible

Nature of Impact –

This role will have a significant impact on the smooth running of the business.

Puts customer first in terms of the standards we set and uphold to ensure our product exceeds customers expectation, are fit for purpose and value for money, as well as meeting our Sustainability objectives

The role will influence the decision making to director level, based on informed choices being made throughout our buying teams. Therefore working as one within multiple teams will be required.

Cost savings for the business will be made through the activities of this role. and  brand reputational risk reduced.   Therefore the role will require disciplined and targeted activity to ensure sourcing projects are identified and delivered.

BMD and Supply Base
Supporting Sustainability objectives and therefore Brand Marketing opportunities

Interpersonal Skills/Key Relationships –

Clear communication will be essential
Personal resilience in a fast paced environment with the ability to stay focussed across multiple tasks.
There will be a high degree of autonomy in this role, although there will be a strong support network of Established Technical Managers and Technologists to help I the delivery of tasks.
An ability to get the best out of the people around you, in terms of  goal setting, coaching and developing the confidence in  processes and decision making
A well-established network with fibre and fabric suppliers will be an advantage
A desire to remain well informed and ensuring you create the opportunities to stall well informed on emerging trends and market forecasts
Experience and the ability to work with international supply chains.
Negotiation and influencing skills will be essential.
Excellent presentation skills would be an advantage
